In a continuation class you will make drawings and paintings based on a diverse range of poses. You will work with models of different ages and genders. By the end of the course, you will have developed a greater sensitivity to line, have a clearer understanding of the impact of tone, be able to use different approaches to painting and have an awareness of the complexities of composition. More advanced students are given the opportunity to work independently, developing their own ideas and experimenting with methods and materials with Tutor guidance where needed. There will be regular discussions and critiques of work made in the class. There will be some longer poses, lasting sometimes for more than one session to allow for making more finished work. These classes are aimed at those with some experience of life drawing or some experience of drawing and painting, although you don't need to be an expert. To join a mixed level class you should have a basic knowledge of drawing materials and methods which you can gain in a beginners’ class. There are beginners’ courses on Thursday evenings and on some Saturdays and at Easter. If you are in any doubt about your level of experience, there is a questionnaire which will help guide you when you come to booking your course. All courses focus largely on making drawings but there are also opportunities to paint for those who wish to. The content of sessions will vary from week to week. In some sessions you might make one piece and in other sessions you might make twenty. Longer poses can be up to two and a half hours.
