From September 2007, all new teachers must achieve the Level 3 or Level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector at the start of their career. The NCFE Level 3 and 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector enables new teachers to meet this requirement. The Level 3 and Level 4 Awards in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector are appropriate for all new entrants to teaching in the lifelong learning sector or for those who are required to achieve a recognised teaching status as defined in the New Overarching Professional Standards for Teachers, Tutors and Trainers in the Lifelong Learning Sector. These qualifications aim to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding required for teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector. The objectives of the qualifications are to help learners to: understand the roles and responsibilities of the teacher, understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches within a specialist area plan, deliver and evaluate a micro-teach session, understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping. Learners will undertake a microteaching session which will be observed and assessed by a member of the delivery team.
