The course is specifically designed for professionals working in education (in roles such as learning support assistants orteaching assistants) as it covers advanced topics designed to provide detailed knowledge and specialist skills.
Students start by considering themselves as a learner and then explore the processes by which children learn; the course focuses on the diversity of need found in educational settings, including special educational needs, gifted and talented provision and English as an additional language; ICT, both personal ICT skills and the value of ICT within the educational environment, are studied within modules; students develop their own subject knowledge of the core subjects and consider the role of the broader curriculum in extending creativity and actively engage with recent and relevant government documentation and initiatives; students consider behaviour management and the evolving role of learning support workers in this time of rapid changes in the schools workforce.
