This law and criminology degree programme focuses on the study and analysis of the socio-political and socio-economic contexts of crime and criminal justice; it further considers the social circumstances of offending, the social institutions and policies that regulate crime, and social factors that mediate participation in, and responses to, criminal activity; secondly, the programme involves a critical approach to the study of law, as part of social, linguistic, institutional, and wider cultural practices; there are several core courses that must be taken during the first two years of study in order to satisfy the requirements of the Law Society.
Year 1: Core modules; crime and social life; English legal system and methods; law of torts; criminal law; law of contracts. Year 2: Core modules; criminological thought; public law; European law. Year 3: Core modules; introduction to property law; land law; equity and trusts law.
