This 54-hour course is obligatory for law trainees who wish to enter the legal profession in Scotland.
In accordance with Law Society guidelines, the course comprises a 36-hour core curriculum of 9 modules: Practical ethics; client care; legal writing; personal organisation and time management; information technology and the legal office; financial and commercial awareness; interviewing; negotiation; drafting; in addition, trainees choose 18 hours of elective modules from the following: civil litigation; commercial drafting; commercial conveyancing; law firm management; company administration; criminal procedure; criminal advocacy; employment drafting; family law; human rights law; intellectual property law; information technology; mediation; private client.
