The GDL (or CPE) is a programme enabling graduates in any non-law subject, overseas law graduates, those holding non-qualifying law degrees and non-graduates with significant vocational experience to convert to a career in law; the GDL may be the first experience students have of law, so the programme offers both a solid academic grounding and preparation for the realities of legal practice; after completing the GDL students can progress to the LPC (for intending solicitors) or the BPTC (for intending barristers).

Core modules: English legal system; contract law; constitutional and administrative law; criminal law; law of equity and trusts; land law; law of the European Union; law of torts; independent research essay; options: evidence and forensics; law in the City; international law; intellectual property law; company law.
