Lancaster University is approaching its 50^th anniversary with a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching, scholarship and research. Our four faculties of excellence (Arts and Social Sciences, School of Health and Medicine, Lancaster University Management School, and Science and Technology) are ambitious and passionate in providing an exemplary learning experience for every student.

The Times, The Guardian and The Independant all rank Lancaster Unviersity in the UK’s top 10 and in the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), in 2008, Lancaster was ranked joint 15^th out of 147 institutions for the quality of its research.  We are committed to pursuing international research at the highest level and to turning ideas into action; this creates a stimulating and innovative learning environment for all our students.

21 Doctoral Training Centres represent a new approach to postgraduate study.  One of their aims is to attract and nurture talented and skilled researchers to secure the future supply of graduates in specific disciplinary areas. These students carry out a PhD-level research project together with taught coursework including integral involvement from leading industry partners.

In the 2010 National Student Survey, 87% of students reported that they are satisfied with their overall experience of Lancaster University Student Satisfaction is also high at Lancaster with 89% of our students are happy with the teaching on their course (National Student Survey, 2011)
