The course starts with a two-week induction to cover study skills, how you learn on the course and an introduction to employability and legal skills. Each year comprises 38 study weeks, made up of one term of 14 weeks and two terms of 12 weeks. You’ll still have the same amount of holiday as secondary school students. In small workshops and in larger groups, you’ll get an average of 11 hours of face-to-face training each week, that’s 768 hours over the two years of the course.Over the whole course, the amount of tutor time you’ll receive is the same as you would get with a traditional three-year degree course (but you'll only pay fees for two years). What really sets The College of Law LL.B apart from other law degrees is that all of your tutor contact time will be with qualified lawyers, who will be able to pass on their actual practice experience directly to you. Each module comprises 15 x two-hour face-to-face sessions in small-group workshops and 15 x two-hour face-to-face sessions in large groups. Modules: In each term you’ll study two modules in parallel. There are six modules in each year – a total of 12 modules over two years. There are ten compulsory subjects. Our Law in Action modules allow you to choose from two routes – Law and Individuals or Law and Businesses – depending on the career route that you think you might want to pursue. At the end of each term you’ll have a revision week followed by an exam in each module. See our LL.B assessments page for further information.
To be considered for a place on our LLB you must have achieved three A Levels at grades ABB or equivalent, plus GCSE English Language and Maths. We will also accept two A Levels plus an equivalent qualification. This is based on the minimum standards required by law firms for entry onto their training contracts. Subject requirements and recommendations: We do not have standard A Level subject requirements. However, you should be aware that in practice, law firms prefer candidates with 'hard' A Level subjects to those with 'soft' A Level subjects. Similarly, we will consider applications from students studying A Level Law, but would not recommend it to aspiring lawyers in year 11 because law firms do not favour it when choosing trainees. We do not accept A Level Critical Thinking or General Studies. Alternative qualifications: As well as A Levels, we also accept a range of other alternative equivalent qualifications. If you require further information and advice on entry requirements please contact us.
