The College

King’s College London was recently awarded the title of ‘Sunday Times University of the Year 2010/11’, in recognition of its all-round excellence, encompassing a range of aspects of research, teaching, and the student experience. It is one of the top 25 universities in the world and the fourth oldest in England. A research-led university based in the heart of London, King’s enrols some 20, 000 students from more than 140 countries every year, and employs 5,400 staff. King’s has an outstanding reputation for providing world-class teaching and cutting-edge research. The College is in the top group of UK universities for research earnings and has an annual income of approximately £400 million.

The Modern Language Centre

The Modern Language Centre (MLC) was established in 1987. It is a department in the School of Arts and Humanities offering tuition in modern foreign languages to some 1500 graduates and postgraduates, as well as an extensive External Programme to other academic institutions, to private and public organisations such as London Business School, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the European Medicines Agency. The MLC is also responsible for credit-bearing teaching in modern languages at the Royal Academy of Music and the Institute for Latin American Studies. 

The MLC is a member of the University Council of Modern Languages (UCML), the Association of University Language Centres in the UK and Ireland (AULC), the Association of Language Learning (AAL), the Association for French Language Studies (AFLS), the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (ILTHE) and the Centre for Information for Language Teaching (CILT); the MLC is also affiliated to the Institut Français, the Goethe Institute, the Cervantes Institute and SIETAR, the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research.

What's on offer

The MLC currently offers language and cultural tuition in twenty-five languages: Arabic, Bengali, Catalan, Dari, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Panjabi, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (European), Russian, SpanishSwedish, Turkish and Urdu. All MLC tutors are native speakers of their language with qualifications.  All are experts in general language teaching, and some have extensive experience in specialist areas of language such as international affairs and journalism, business, politics and finance.
