This course enables students with 1st degrees in literature, media and cultural studies, or related areas, to develop their interests at a more advanced and specialised level, or to redirect their study in a new direction; the course explores journalism through its Hollywood portrayal, and allows students to view the upheavals of the 20th century by means of the landmark texts of literary journalism produced by Ernest Hemingway and others; this is a course that focuses on the literary development of journalism and its interrelation with other media and cultural forms.
Journalism & cultural politics; journalists in film & literature; the literature of journalism; research skills in literature; culture & communication; a disseration of 15,000-20,000 words on a subject of their choice, related to the theme of the course.
