About this course

For centuries, artists from the Islamic world have used gold, ink and brightly coloured paints to illuminate and beautify Islamic manuscripts. This practical course will introduce students to the traditional geometric and floral designs that are used to adorn illuminated pages. Students will learn about paper preparation, and traditional painting and gilding techniques used in Islamic manuscript will also be introduced to the historical and stylistic context of this exquisite craft.
