Graduate to Great Things with the University of Liverpool
This degree explores 2 neighbouring and mutually enriching cultures by studying their literature, language and history in a comparative way; at times, with figures such as Jonathan Swift and William Butler Yeats, the two countries' literary traditions seem tightly bound, while at other moments they differ radically; the aim of this programme specifically is to introduce students to a broad range of writers, themes and forms such that students engage with the rich cultural heritage of the 2 countries over several centuries; more generally, the programme encourages development of close analysis and clear writing, thus equipping students for a whole range of future career options; this joint degree programme is based on several well established academic disciplines: literature, language, history, geography, politics and supplies students with the necessary preparation to take Irish Studies or English Language and or Literature to postgraduate level, if students wish; some of the modules that students can choose from include Shakespeare, the Irish literary revival, close reading and critical reading, contemporary Irish drama, American literature and science fiction.
