Course Description
The growing importance of portfolio analysis, investment banking, derivatives trading and asset-risk management in modern financial markets, has created the need for sophisticated risk managers and financial analysts. City University's Cass Business School has developed this programme in order to prepare you to become a competent manager, trader or analyst in any area of finance. The programme will provide you with in-depth knowledge of modern investment and risk management practices, and their applications in equity markets, bond trading, derivatives hedging, investment banking, hedge funds and many other areas of global financial markets. You will acquire a sound knowledge of the theoretical foundations that underpin modern investment and risk management techniques; and through the use of case studies, you will learn to apply these principles. First year modules include Economics for Finance, Financial and Management Accounting, and Financial Markets and Institutions. In year 2 you will study Corporate Risk Management, Investment Markets, and Principles of Finance. Year 3 modules include Asset Liability Management and Fixed Income Portfolio Management. All three years offer elective modules which enable you to extend your study of investment, finance and risk, or to focus on areas of business including insurance and real estate. Electives also include French, German or Spanish for Business, for those who have AS-level (or equivalent) in the appropriate language. You may take an optional professional placement year or spend a year or a semester studying with one of our partner institutions in the US, the far east or various european countries. You may also progress to the MEB, a postgraduate course designed exclusively for Cass graduates. Graduates are well-placed to enter careers in a wide variety of finance and investment fields: portfolio management, investment analysis, corporate treasury, hedging and trading, investment banking or corporate finance.
