About this course

This course is suited to anyone wishing to learn how to make 3D ideas become a reality. It is ideal if you have an interest in producing sculptures or reproducing existing sculptural or 3D work, and can also help you meet small-scale industry demands.

A core element of the course will feature techniques used in product, furniture and jewellery development, in addition to those used in the production of small and large-scale sculptures. It will provide you with an enlightening insight into ‘making anything possible’ where you will learn about new developments in cutting edge materials technology, renewable resources and non-toxic, environmentally-friendly compounds.

The ideal participant will have a fundamental understanding of 2D or 3D design. Although no formal experience is essential, those with a basic understanding of sculpture and creating 3D forms would benefit most. You will work within the sculptural facility of NTU which provides technical support unique to Nottingham. Whilst this is mainly a practical course it also includes an introductory, interactive and pragmatic lecture aimed at aspiring artists of all abilities. You will develop and produce 3D work based on your own research and drawings, and by the end of the course you will have typically created a finished piece and the means to reproduce more on demand. You will have accumulated a unique understanding of materials and processes crucial for creating and reproducing sculpture. Furthermore, you will take away new work towards building a varied and balanced portfolio, along with a developed approach to design interpretation through problem solving and lateral thinking.
