This course is the 1st of 4 practice-based courses running through the pre-registration nursing programme; it is common to all branches of the programme; course begins to establish areas of knowledge and competence in nursing, and addresses professional-identity formation; students study a variety of material from different sources, make links between practice and theory in their own working lives, and develop accounts of how practice and theory fit together; students need to be working as a healthcare support worker in a health setting to complete this course; students need support from their line manager who must provide them with access to a registered nurse; the registered nurse must be available to assist students in: completing a learning needs analysis putting together an action plan to meet learning needs achieving what is detailed in the action plan; the registered nurse should verify the authenticity of the evidence students provide in their portfolio to demonstrate that they have met the requirements.
