Course Description
This is not a static goal as technology, and the demands placed on it, are evolving at an ever-increasing rate. The aim of this programme is to prepare students, who will already have a technical background, with the requisite specialist knowledge and skills to develop and manage current systems and to adapt to the changing face of communications and internet technology. On completing the programmes, the students should be able to take active roles in a wide range of areas within the telecommunications industry. This area of industry is growing exponentially and there is a huge demand for skilled professionals both in the large telecommunications companies and in a number of smaller companies providing specialist internet and communication services for local business communities. The MSc integrates a taught component constructed from eight or nine modules for a total of 90 course credits with a substantial project, equivalent to six months full- time, which is allocated 90 course credits. We endeavour to place students in sponsoring industrial laboratories for the duration of their projects with the remaining projects being carried out at the University, often with guidance and direction from industrial partners. Common components with MSc in Telecommunications Technology: Information Theory and Coding, and Traffic Theory; Internetworking; Software Engineering; Introductory Programming (in Java); MSc project. Stand alone content for the MSc in Internet Technology: Telecommunications perspectives; Distributed Software Systems; Internet Applications; Software Engineering for Web Applications; & E-Commerce.
