The course equips students with the skills and knowledge to design; build; and extend the Internet infrastructure; and to design a variety of distributed applications in the fields of scientific computing; electronic retailing; home banking; and information and service brokerage.
Students take taught modules (75 credits); a group project (15 credits); and an individual project (90 credits); taught modules typically include: Internet programming; information management; system security; enterprise distributed computing; system design; system validation; distributed algorithms; recent developments in the Internet and Web; the focus of the 6 month individual project is normally a system design and implementation project for networked computing; opportunities exist for undertaking the project with industry.
