The degree combines essential, core modules from both international politics and sociology, it offers a broad understanding of both subjects with a focus on how the local and global relate to each other.Year 1: Core modules: theories of global politics; actors in global politics;introduction to sociology; understanding the modern world.Year 2: Core modules: theories and research in global; research methods workshop; (plus elective modules from internationl politics); international political economy; political change in Europe; regional and economic international organisations; religions in global politics; transnational social movements; global conflict and security; (plus elective modules from sociology); understanding social change; new media challenges; news and society; media, culture and society; key issues in criminology; political sociology; transnational social movements.Year 3: Core modules: supervised project either in international politics or sociology; (international politics elective modules); american foreign policy; the global politics of development; global governance; international politics of the middle east; politics of displacement; (sociology elective modules); gender and society; globalisation, social difference andhuman rights; migration, refugees and globalisation; sociology of sexualities; world media industry; the sociology of identity.
