This course provides students with an opportunity to examine and critically evaluate issues of the contemporary world; it covers the area of international politics, both theory and practice, including development and globalisation, civil society and social movements, history and religion, global political economy, governance and international institutions, security studies and foreign policy.
Core modules: theories of international politics; governing in global politics; international politics research workshop; international politics dissertation; optional modules: understanding security in the 21st Century; international organisations in global politics; NGOs, human rights and the UN system; development and international politics; political Islam in global politics; global political economy; political economy of global finance; politics of displacement; global politics of health and disease; global civil society; international politics of the middle east; international communications and conflict; globalisation: challenges and transformations; human wrongs; rights, multiculturalism and citizenship; an introduction to refugee studies; refugee rights and refugee settlement; global human rights; international human rights law.
