This programme offers an interdisciplinary approach with a critical outlook to understand the predicaments and dilemmas of developing and developed countries; the programme emphasis is on the issues of deprivation, poverty, underdevelopment, gender disparity, trade, aid, health, human rights and sustainable development in the context of institutionalised (state/market) policy; the aim of the course is to provide a comprehensive, critical and in-depth programme of study that develops analytical outlook and professional competence and prepares students for employment or further research in international development; by the conclusion of the programme students should have a deep understanding of the economic development process and have enhanced their critical skills in analysing development policy, its theoretical foundations and its impact.
Modules include: theories, concepts and trends in international development; environment, economy and sustainable development; international economic themes and issues; health economics and development or microfinance and microcredit; global political economy; human rights and development; gender, poverty and development; cost benefit analysis or crisis, participation and international governance; international development project.
