The course covers range of instrumental analytical techniques used in chemical and environmental analysis including environmental surveys and monitoring (of water, soil, sediment, air) and automated methods; plus optional courses which provide underpinning for later course units; the Postgraduate Diploma entails an industrial work placement; the laboratory programme provides practical experience and problem solving using modern instrumentation; the research programme (MSc) takes place either at the University, or in industry of abroad.
Semester 1: professional skills and techniques; separation, electroanalysis and microscopy; spectroscopy; laboratory work; semester 2: environmental analysis; contemporary techniques/analytical problem solving; work placement or project preparation; semester 3: Msc research project.
