Covers range of instrumental analytical techniques including residual stress analysis; acoustic emission and ultrasonic visual methods of inspection; radiographic and electromagnetic methods of material evaluation; environmental surveys and monitoring; plus optional courses which provide underpinning for later course units; the Postgraduate Diploma entails an industrial work placement; the laboratory programme provides practical experience and problem solving using modern instrumentation; there is also the research programme (Master's) either at the University, or in industry of abroad.
Semester 1: professional skills and techniques: separation, electroanalysis and microscopy; spectroscopy; laboratory work; semester 2: drug analysis and toxicology; contemporary techniques / analytical problem solving; work placement or project preparation; semester 3: Msc research project.
