Course is designed to develop highly individual approaches to the creation of descriptive images for both print and moving image; good draftsmanship and painting skills are encouraged as the fundamental basis for all development, with an emphasis on drawing both on location and in the life room; students can choose to remain broadly based during the course or begin to specialise in illustration or animation; work throughout the course will be supported by historical and theoretical studies.
Core and optional modules include: Year 1: illustration/animation studies I: working methods; illustration/animation studies II: narrative and sequence; themes in the history of design for communication and media I; themes in the history of design for communication and media II; drawing studies; portfolio and end of year show I. Year 2: illustration/animation studies III; illustration/animation studies IV; history of illustration; contextual studies; careers management; portfolio and end of year show II. Year 3: illustration/animation studies V; professional portfolio; professional practice; dissertation; degree show exhibition.
