Course Description
This programme, accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Institution of Highways and Transportation (IHT)) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), aims to equip you with the analytical, experimental and computational expertise necessary to solve hydraulic engineering problems. With the aid of computer applications (hydroinformatics), emphasis is placed on modern concepts and approaches in hydraulic engineering design. For the MSc you take 100 credits of taught modules (90 credits compulsory; 10 credits optional) followed by a research project written up as a dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules may include: computation and hydroinformatics; data and hydroinformatics; hydrosystems and hydroinformatics; an introduction to GIS; introduction to programming in Java. For the MSc you must also study modules covering: quantitative methods for engineering; catchment and river modelling; computational hydraulics. Optional modules may include: integrated river basin management; hydroinformatic systems development; databases for GIS. A full range of teaching methods is employed. Assessment is by formal written examinations, course work, a dissertation, and oral and poster presentations. Dissertation projects are often undertaken in collaboration with industry.

Entry Requirements
A second-class Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in engineering (any branch), environmental science, physics, geography, mathematics, chemistry, geology or a similar subject. Mathematics A level or equivalent is also advantageous. Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), 577 (paper-based) or equivalent.
