Level 2: Human geography: data acquisition and analysis in human geography; geographical methodology and practice; tutorial; fieldwork; physical geography: numerical analysis in physical geography; tutorial; procedures and practice for physical environment data collection (including fieldwork double module). Level 3: Tutorial; independent study (triple module); optional modules: human geography: population issues and migration; third world development problems; urban planning, policy and practice; rural and countryside planning; historical perspectives on city and countryside; landscape, culture and society; economic development, transport and society; political geography; regional geography: North America; Africa; Europe; environmental geography: environmental monitoring; mapping science (survey, photogrammetry, geographical information systems); manipulating the environment; resources and the environment; society and environment; physical geography: atmospheric change and global water resources; fluvial, glacial and coastal geomorphology; pure and applied soil science; dynamic biogeography; reconstructing past environments (quaternary). Politics: Modern political theory; politics and economics of global order; international history from 1930-45; international politics since 1945; international political theory; 2 courses from government and politics of the USA; president and congress; Soviet government and politics; politics of the Middle East; French politics; British politics; Modern Welsh politics; politics of the European Community; 2 courses from study of texts in political theory: Kant, Hegel and Marx; ideas and practices in American government; Chinese communism; Islam in domestic and international politics; comparative politics; foreign policy; 2 half-courses chosen from those offered in the current session.
