Human geography examines the everyday spaces which humans use, from the children's playground to the motorway hard shoulder; but it also addresses the major issues facing humanity today: globalisation; sustainable development; inequality and poverty; geopolitics; nationalism; regionalism; migration; multiculturalism; social and economic change; students study the historical processes behind contemporary trends, draw together perspectives from different countries and cultures, and use different sources ranging from maps and statistics to film, art and literature; the education course lays the foundations for themes of study in the 1st year which are developed in the 2nd and 3rd years; policies and issues in education introduces basic concepts relating to the planning of curricula and school systems; child development and young children learning begin the study of the cognitive and social development of children and adolescents; students choose from the following modules in the 2nd year; psychology of learning and thinking, continues the study of cognitive development.
