Higher National Diploma (HND) is a specialist programme, linked to professional body requirements and with a strong work related emphasis. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in hospitality sector and its wide recognition by employers allows progression directly into employment. The HND offers a strong emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding in the hospitality sector. This programme is designed to provide students with the range of skills required of the modern hospitality manager, such as the ability to function at both the operational and strategic levels. The course also aims to develop a good understanding of the key areas of hospitality management preparing students for a wide range of careers. The strong emphasis is placed on transferable skills, e.g. project management, strategic planning, budgeting and efficient business communication, to ensure that graduates have the awareness to succeed in this ever changing field. A range of assessment methods is used including coursework, projects, work based learning and presentations.
