Students meet for lectures four morning a week, with interactive sessions and seminars scheduled on 4 afternoons. Wednesdays are reserved for field trips and private study.

Course Description
This Master's programme provides an education that will open up pathways into a range of careers in the art world, and can also lead to further postgraduate study. This course explores Fine Art of the modern and contemporary period. Contemporary art and ideas are also used to provide the context and critical tools to interpret and evaluate earlier works. The course is designed to be creative and adaptive, analysing the interests and practices of a fast-changing art world. Classes and visits are regularly led by visiting professionals, including practising artists, dealers, conservators, curators and critics, offering a stimulating range of perspectives on the art and culture of this period. This course provides a varity of practical and critical skills. You will produce written work that ranges from analytical writing to exhibition reviews and curatorial reports. You be introduced to museum and auction house systems for classifying objects and study different models of museum and gallery display. A unique feature of the programme is that the Master's Thesis takes the form of a proposed exhibition catalogue. Above all, the course aims to stimulate critical awareness, engendering a creative and informed understanding of art and the art world. This course is taught through a mixture of formal lectures and more interactive sessions led by tutors and specialists. In addition to visits to museums, galleries, and other art venues within London, study trips to other cities and sites both in the UK and abroad are key components of these courses and are not charged as extras.

Assessment method
Course work is assessed through a system of component credits. To qualify for the aware of M.Litt degree, students must successfully achieve the appropriate standard in a range of work. In addition to regular written assignments and seminar presentations, students sit the professional cataloguing examination where they are required to catalogue a range of objects, taken directly from the sale room, to Christie's Auction House standards. The main academic piece of work is the thesis, which takes the form of an exhibition catalogue and is carried out individually by the student under the supervision of their tutor. This critical piece of work is designed to enable students to display all the key academic and professional skills learned on the programme.

Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a working knowledge of modern and contemporary art and have some awareness of current cultural debates. This is a full-time postgraduate degree open to all students with a university education although preference will be given to those with a degree in the History of Art. We welcome applications from mature students who have experience or knowledge of art, but may not have graduated in art history. Non-English speaking students must have IELTS 8 or equivalent.

Venue Description
Christie's Education is provided with teaching spaces including five lecture rooms, and has a museum room, student common room, and Learning Resources Centre which includes a computer room, slide library, periodicals and book library. It is a short walk from Oxford Street, and Warren Street and Great Portland Street tube stations.
