The courses have been designed to fit easily into people’s busy lives, with classes running throughout the day and evening.
Painting changed in the 15th century. The Italian architect Brunelleschi 'discovered' perspective, Leonardo da Vinci investigated the inner workings of the human body and glimpses of landscape started to appear behind portraits or scenes from the Bible. This accessible course tells the story of 'The Renaissance' and introduces us to the great painters of Italy, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian and from the North, Jan van Eyck and Hans Holbein. No previous knowledge is expected. Notes will be provided. This is one of three courses (The Renaissance, French Impressionists and Modern Art) covering the history of art across three terms. Each course is self-contained and courses may be taken consecutively or individually in any order.
