The core modules cover historical and contemporary subjects in aesthetics, as well as focusing on issues specific to particular art forms, including painting, photography, music and film; students take 1 optional module, allowing a greater focus on 1 of these art forms, or another topic.

Modules

Core modules: Introduction to research in philosophy of art and aesthetics; topics in contemporary aesthetics; topics in the history of aesthetics; dissertation. Optional modules include: Conceptualising film; hogarth and the analysis of beauty; taste, beauty and the sublime; thinking theatre (theories and aesthetics of performance); varieties of artifice (painting in the text).
