Course Description
This programme combines the opportunity to specialise in History, whilst acquiring professional skills and gaining wok experience in year 2. A wide range of periods is available to study: from the Anglo Saxons to the 20th century. There is also a diversity of location: from Britain & Western Europe to North America and elsewhere. A foundation for further study is laid down in the first year modules, comprising; Historical Sources and their Interpretation; History Study Skills; Medieval, Modern British, Modern European and World History; Keywords/History of ideas and Yorkshire History or a Modern Foreign Language. Later, Optional modules include; Unification to Conquest; Conquest to Crusade; Early Modern socio political history; Hanoverian Britain; 19th century Britain; Post revolutionary France, to 1871, Imperial Germany to 1918; America from 1830 to 1980; Historical Heritage; History of Political Philosophy; Gender in the Middle Ages; Late Medieval Religion; Henry VIII's empire; Walpole; The French Revolution; 1930's Britain; Women in western thought and Britishness since 1900. Compulsory studies, in the second and third years, respectively, require a choice between 19th century Britain or the socio political history of early modern Britain, together with history special subjects and possibly a dissertation, in the final year.

Assessment method
The course employs a broad range of assessment methods from self-assessment to traditional unseen examinations. All modules are assessed at the end of each semester. Most modules use a combination of techniques such as examination, written coursework, oral assessment and tutorial assignments.
