Course Description
This programme is for Clinicians who need to know more about managing information or wish to pursue informatics careers in the NHS, the private sector and the International Healthcare Community (IHC), as well as commercial bodies that design and implement clinical systems solutions. Clinical information, its management and associated technology is one of the most challenging and dynamic areas in the field of healthcare. Information and its communication are central to the delivery of care. This programme has been developed jointly by the members of the School of Health & Social Care and the Information Systems Institute (ISI), with partners from the private and public sector. Information systems, often a mix of paper-based and electronic resources, are critical to support the care process. The MSc programme consists of core and optional modules. These cover topics such as: Evidence Based Health Informatics, Clinical Terminologies and Electronic Clinical Records and Concepts. In addition, students take a further module in Research Methods and complete a dissertation which allows them to apply knowledge and skills. Teaching is through our virtual learning environment, flexible learning practices, lectures, case studies, workshops and presentations.

Entry Requirements
A good honours degree (2.2 or above) or an equivalent qualification. We recognise that not everyone who is capable of completing the programme will have formal qualifications. Therefore we encourage people in this situation who have work or other related experience, to apply. International students must provide evidence of proficiency in English - IELTS 6.5 band score or a score of TOEFL at 575 or above (232 computer based) with a TWE of 4.0 or above are proof of this. If your current English language qualification is below this level, you may be able to take one of the many pre-sessional English courses in the University School of Languages.
