This is a 5-day taught module followed by an assignment and is available as a stand-alone PGA or as a module within the MSc medical education or MSc medical leadership programmes; this is a broadly based course, which is of interest to a wide range of health professionals; we anticipate a multidisciplinary group which is taught in a small group format; it provides an introduction to the theory of ethics in relation to health care and how this has developed over time; a number of specific subject areas are considered using key legal cases and discussion of case studies; there is an emphasis on practical application of theory into student's own practice.
The professional/patient relationship (including consent and confidentiality); treatment of vulnerable adults and children; ethical issues in reproductive medicine; ethics of resource allocation; difficult decisions at the end of life; ethical issues in education of health professionals.
