During this course you will learn a range of hand embroidery stitches such as running, chain and blanket, going on to make french knots and couching techniques, allowing you to produce a unique piece of hand embroidered fabric that could be used in accessory design or shown as part of a textile design portfolio.

You will develop a broad-based, experimental approach to these stitches using a variety of fabrics and threads of different qualities and weights, and experimenting with scale. You will have the opportunity to work with traditional and non-traditional materials, and you will be encouraged to develop your own personal design project using a sketchbook to develop mark-making skills, explore colour and record your ideas.

This course will suit beginners and those that want to develop a more experimental approach to hand embroidery. It is a practical course where you will have technical demonstrations and will be encouraged to produce your own samples, continuing with them at home.
