Hadlow College has benefited from a commercial farm for many years, indeed it is an area where students gain hands-on experience of all aspects of farm management and has won an award for ‘Most Improved Dairy Unit’. Today the farm is split into two sites; Blackman’s Dairy and Faulkners Farm. Blackman’s dairy is home to 120 dairy cows and has a fully automated milking facility which yields one million litres of milk each year. It also benefits from a viewing gallery where students can observe techniques used for milking. Over 500 sheep graze all year round at Faulkners Farm and 180 hectares of land are cultivated with arable crops. Students have the opportunity to work in the specialist machinery workshops including driving tractors.

Housing over 200 exotic species, including aquatics, invertebrates, reptiles and small mammals as well as aviaries, arctic foxes and otters, it also comprises a dog grooming studio and professional standard veterinary examination rooms. Opening Spring 2009 will be a custom built animal management, veterinary nursing and dog-grooming facility which will be one of the best in the country.

Hadlow College’s equine centre is a Centre of Vocational Excellence for equine studies and offers superb facilities for students to learn all they need to know about horses. The centre comprises of two international sized indoor arenas for practice and shows, outdoor arenas, stabling for over 70 horses including a new American barn complex, two cross country courses for training and competition, a horse walker, weighbridge and treadmill. Students studying equine at Hadlow College play an active role in the operation of the centre and hold regular equine shows for the public.

Horticulture plays a central role at Hadlow College and benefits from facilities to match. The glasshouse complex covers 1.3 hectares offering students the chance to learn how commercial horticulture operates, as well as providing separate student areas for individual projects. The site also benefits from a fruit production unit, medicinal gardens, field production facilities and dedicated laboratories equipped for plant and soil science experiments.

The fisheries department have enviable facilities for the study of fisheries management. The state-of-the-art hatchery enables students to learn about methods of fish production, whilst the College’s brown trout stream and ponds are available for student projects. Furthermore, the College benefits from exclusive partnerships with more than 20 South East based fisheries facilities to ensure students gain real life experience.
