Course Description
This course is for students who want to develop skills in graphic design and apply these within multimedia contexts. It will allow them to become multimedia specialists combining design skills and knowledge of production processes to create screen-based communication such as websites, motion graphics and interactive products. The first stage introduces essential skills and processes in typography, image-making and design for interactive media. Stages two and three enable students to develop their design expertise through a variety of stimulating briefs and self-initiated projects. There are workshops in production processes and professional skills as well as opportunities to work on live projects and enter competitions. Studio work is underpinned by a framework of critical understanding and contextual awareness and students also learn how to liaise with clients and other professionals and to present their work effectively. The emphasis is on creativity and innovation combined with high production values and functional problem solving. Students can specialise in one particular aspect of multimedia design or develop a broader portfolio.
