Course Description
This course is for students who want to develop specialist skills as illustrators and build up a valuable knowledge base with an in-depth understanding of graphic communication. In the first stage students experiment with a diverse range of traditional and digital processes as well as exploring areas such as typography and multimedia. In the second and third stages students build specialist expertise in illustration through contextual research and a variety of stimulating project briefs. Workshops in production processes and professional skills support studio practice and students are encouraged to undertake live projects and enter competitions. Studio work is also underpinned by a framework of critical understanding and contextual awareness. Self-initiated project work is a major feature of the final stage, where students produce a portfolio of distinctive and adventurous work to show clients and prospective employers.
