This course focuses on thinking and skills in relation to contemporary understanding of communication design; it places emphasis on idea generation and the relationship of typography and its interaction with other means of communication; students explore the use of words and how they communicate using typography.
Year 1: Core modules in typography and image A; typography and image B; introduction to design research; developing design research; design for identity; design for editorial; design for information. Year 2: Core modules in designing with type A; design research presentation; looking forward; options chosen from; communicating identity; design negotiated; understanding Communication (design case studies); communicating editorial; communicating information; exchange; exchange report; design negotiated. Year 3: Core modules in designing with type B; designing with a theme; major project; options chosen from; the dissertation; the extended dissertation; facing out.
