This course has an equal emphasis on theory and practice and provides students with an understanding of the function and effect of graphic communication in relation to the media, culture and society as a whole; all practical work is underpinned by a focused and appropriate critical and contextual studies programme; as well as developing methodology as part of the design process, students also gain an understanding of the processes involved in the reproduction of art work and the relationship between designer, printer, client and audience; this course supports the development of skills and individual practice and ultimately allows students to establish their own creative identity within a graphic and communication design context.
Modules include: Introduction to typography; design communication; interpretation and visualization; techniques and materials; graphic communication in context; text and image; application and realisation of design; advanced design practices; exploring digital applications; specialist graphic communication; progression and professional practice; final major project.
