This programme provides an introduction to the cross-disciplinary field of global development; it provides an overview of alternative theoretical approaches in the analysis of development, and examines their differing policy and practice implications, with a particular focus on low and mid-income country contexts; the education pathway combines the core element of the MA Global Development, with a specialism in education in development as well as options that include international educational management and leadership.
Core modules: Education in development; global inequalities and development; dissertation in global development and education; optional modules include: Africa in the contemporary world; conflict, complex emergencies and global governance; democracy and development; democratisation and multi-party politics in Africa; famine and food security; gender, globalisation and development; global citizenship in the UK primary education system; political economy of resources and development; capitalism and crisis; political transitions in south east Asia; development management techniques; research methodology for development.
