This course offers the opportunity to study human geography and the planning system that shape the geography of urban and rural areas; the modules offered are a combination of geographic and town planning topics offering insights into processes, policies and practices in operation.
Year 1: Development, planning and the state; the making of urban places; information and communication skills for geographers; introducing social and cultural geographies; region, nation and world; statistical data analysis in geography. Year 2: cities and modernities; cultural geographies; environment, society and policy; geographies of development; geographies of governance; geographies of social identities and difference; globalisation and state power; profit, planning and context; rural planning; social geographies of life chances; social research methods; the development process. Year 3: values, theory and ethics in planning; extended essay in planning and geography; research project in planning and geography.
