The BSc geography and archaeology degree offers a combination of theoretical and practical modules; it is a novel programme which seeks to combine the key aspects of physical geography and archaeology around the themes of the environment past and present; the programme aims to equip students with the skills needed for the observation, analysis and evaluation of the relationships that have existed and exist today between people, environments and resources; students develop an understanding of past societies through the study of archaeological evidence and develop an understanding of the theory and practice of archaeology and geography, and their relationship to each other; particular attention is also paid to the encouragement of independent thought, problem solving and the analysis of complex issues; fieldwork is also an important aspect of the course; in year 1 there is a weekend residential field trip to Scarborough, and in year 2 students embark on a week-long residential field excursion to France.
