This course introduces students to the principles and applications of geographic information science (GISc) at an advanced level through the development of scientific knowledge, technical expertise and practical experience; it provides students with relevant theoretical background knowledge and a conceptual understanding of GISc as well as the social and political context of geographical data and the implications of its use; the course enables students to develop new skills that have real world applications for work and careers.
Core modules: fundamentals of geographic information science, data capture and database management; spatial statistics, programming for GIS; spatial modelling, advanced GIS analysis; social issues in GIS, GIS applications; dissertation.
