The course covers games analysis and games design, platforms and technologies, content production, testing, usability and playability, sales and marketing, and games production; it provides a study of games, with an emphasis on innovation, design and creativity rather than the programming and technical aspects; the focus is team-based projects, with regular critique sessions with peers and members of the games team; games labs including quad processor PCs installed with current games development environments, 3D graphics cards, XBOX 360s and Playstation 3s ensuring students have access to the tools needed to create a high quality portfolio of work; learners benefit from working alongside our more technical and artistic students; this course develop learners ability to clearly articulate an idea from concept through production and on to the final product; practical experience is offered with the tools game designers use in the industry as well as exposure to games design practices; as students work individually to create portfolios, the project elements of the course help develop those all important team-working and communication skills.
Level 1: 3D games art 1; games design 1 (double module); games environment; games scripting 1; introduction to synthesis and midi. Level 2: Games scripting 2; level design 2; games modelling and animation; games portfolio; games narratives and design; project skills. Level 3: 3D games art 3; games scripting 3; the business of computer games; games design theory; games design team project (double module).
