GCSE English involves reading writing listening and speaking. Although these are language skills there is a strong element of literature including some study of Shakespeare. Students are also required to do some personal writing about their feelings and experiences as well as writing of a more practical nature. Course content: Media texts Non-fiction texts Poetry from different cultures Speaking and listening Personal writing Shakespeare Prose Functional skills - Englsh Maths ICT GCSE Mathematics covers statistics numbers algebra geometry trigonometry and functional maths. The syllabus is modular with 4 exam modules which may be taken in March or June depending on student progress. Course content: Handling data Numbers and algebra Shape space and measurements Functional maths After this course: Progression to Level 3 qualification.
Students need to have GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grades D or above) or achieve an equivalent level in the initial College assessment.
