Graduate to Great Things with the University of Liverpool
This degree allows students to consolidate their knowledge of French whilst taking Spanish from scratch; however, if students have taken both languages at A level, then this degree also allow them to build upon their existing knowledge; through a range of linguistic, literary, history, society and cultural options, students explore life in Francophone and Hispanic societies; each year students take modules in Spanish and French language; in the 1st year students also take foundational modules in Spanish which concentrate on Iberian and Latin American history, languages in the Hispanic world and migration and transnational Identities; in the 2nd and final years students can choose from a wide range of modules; these include options on medieval Spanish culture, Latin American literature, Galician studies, Brazilian, Latin American and Spanish cinema, Mexican fiction, the modern Spanish novel and linguistics; during the first year of French students take language modules as well as the foundational modules which serve as broad introductions to the literary, historical and linguistic subjects offered during the rest of the degree; during the second and final year you can choose from modules including medieval history, medieval and Renaissance literature, the history of the book, women's writing, travel writing, French cinema, representations of the Second World War, structuralism, negritude and Francophonie (French language culture outside France), as well as modules in linguistics and advanced translation; in addition, students spend a year in either a French-speaking or Spanish-speaking country either as an assistant in a school or at university or on a work placement; in France we have links with universities in Aix-en-Provence, Dijon, Lyon, Paris and Toulouse and in Spain we are partners with Alcal�e Henares, Alicante, Barcelona, Madrid, Oviedo, Porto and Valencia. Recent work placements in France and Spain include Canal +, Eurogroup, Eurosport, gofluent, Mo�et Chandon, Nestl�RBS and Samsonite; during this year, students complete an extended essay in either French or Spanish on a topic of their choice, or take examinations at their chosen university; it is possible to divide time between 2 countries.
