Graduate to Great Things with the University of Liverpool
Through a wide range of literary, linguistic, cultural and historical options, students gain an in-depth knowledge of French- and German-speaking worlds, their pasts, presents and possible futures; in all years French and German languages are taken, with beginners in German taking extra modules; in the first year, students also take foundational modules in French and German which serve as a broad introduction to the topics offered later in the programme; 1 year is spent in a French- or German-speaking country as an assistant in a school, at university or on a work placement, during which students complete an extended essay in French or German on a topic of choice or take examinations at their chosen university; it is also possible to divide the time between the two countries.
French Including: Medieval history; medieval and Renaissance literature; the history of the book; women's writing; travel writing; French cinema; representations of the Second World War; structuralism; negritude and Francophonie (French language culture outside France); linguistics; advanced translation. German Including: Multicultural literature; the cinematic city; Germany in Europe; literary culture in the media age; representations of Berlin; contemporary German literature; German cinema since 1990; post-unification Germany.
