We need to learn to speak to others directly in their own tongue to keep a strong position in the world today. The advantages to you personally of knowing a modern foreign language are enormous. You can offer it to an employer as an extra skill alongside your other qualifications, or you can use it for your own enjoyment and understanding of another culture. If you want to keep up your French to a high level, especially the speaking and listening skills, you could include an AS level course in your programme. It goes well with any combination - from Maths and Science to Business for example. At A2 you will build on your knowledge to develop your French listening, speaking, reading and writing to a higher level, adding essay writing and translation skills. You will further improve your knowledge of French grammar and language structure to give you a better understanding of the language and culture of the French speaking world. At AS there is a topic based approach including: - Youth culture - Lifestyle, health and fitness - Travel, tourism, the environment and the French-speaking world - Education and employment In addition to the above topics you will study: - Customs, traditions and beliefs - National and international events - Literature and the arts In addition to As and A2 classes you will have 30 minutes oral practice per week with the Foreign Language Assistant. You will also work on a major French topic which includes a piece of written research. - You will have opportunity to take part in a week's work experience in France. Every week you will have oral practice with a foreign language assistant. They give weekly conversation practice to all our languages students, bringing them the latest expressions and ideas and help with the oral examinations. Whatever level of language study you choose, you will find yourself time-tabled in the new digital language laboratory at least once a week.
In addition to 5 Grade C's at GCSE you will need a minimum grade B in GCSE French and English Language. Entry by: Interview
