This course is made up of a number of components such as Principal Learning, Additional and Specialist Learning, Functional Skills, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, ten days work experience and an extended project. Principle Learning covers topics such as Communication, Meeting Needs, Exploring the Sectors and Health, Well-being and Lifestyle. Participants additional learning will cover a Childcare unit and Personal and Social Development. Functional skills will include Maths, English and IT. If they successfully complete this course, they may progress to Level 2 Childcare, Health and Social Care, other Level 2 courses or an Apprenticeship.
Participants must have two GCSEs at grade D or above, including English or Entry level 3 qualifications in Maths, English and IT and keen interest in working within the sector. They need to be between 14 to 19 years of age.
