This course is for students who are already employed or seeking employment as a sports coach. The knowledge and skills they will gain will increase their personal effectiveness as a sports coach and enhance their employment opportunities. It covers the following modules in year 1: coaching practice 1, coaching theory, anatomy of exercise, physiology of exercise, psychology of sport, sociology of sport, exercise and health, motor skill development and acquisition and in year 2: coaching, practice 2, principles of training, fitness testing and assessment, structure and organisation of sport, study skills (researching and reporting), coaching children, nutrition.
Students must have level 3 i.e. BTEC Nationals, A and AS levels and GNVQ. In addition to this they will be expected to have three passes at GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths. Equivalent Level 2 qualifications may also be accepted.
